L. Marc Carter
CPM, Principal
Marc Carter is involved in multiple aspects of the business, with a focus on providing guidance in investment strategy, acquisitions and dispositions. Additionally, Carter supervises the property management platform and is a member of the company’s Investment Committee.
Carter has 45 years of experience in the real estate investment industry. Prior to co-founding Carter-Haston with Harris Haston in 1987, he held management positions at Jacques-Miller Property Management, Towne Properties in Cincinnati, Ohio and Multicon Properties in Columbus, Ohio.
Carter is a Certified Property Manager, a director on the board of the National Multifamily Housing Council and a member of the National Apartment Association’s Executive Forum, among other civic and professional boards. A native to the Midwest, Carter attended Indiana University prior to graduating from the United States Army’s Officer Candidate School in engineering where he was honorably discharged in 1972.
C. Harris Haston
Principal
Harris Haston is involved in multiple aspects of the business, with a focus on providing guidance on investment strategy, corporate finance, debt and equity structure and investor relations. He is a member of the company’s Investment Committee.
Haston is a veteran of real estate development, banking and finance. He began his career in the real estate division of a major regional bank and spent many years providing development and consulting services to financial institutions and other investors before founding Carter-Haston with Marc Carter in 1987.
Haston currently serves as a director of the National Multifamily Housing Council and member of the Pension Real Estate Association and Rotary Club of Nashville, which he previously served as treasurer. Additionally, Haston is an executive board member of the Middle Tennessee Council of Boy Scouts and serves on the board of trustees of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Amanda V. Speed
CPA, Partner
Amanda Speed joined Carter-Haston in 1994 and oversees operational management functions, including company policy and procedures, human resources and information technology. A Certified Public Accountant, Speed manages all accounting, budgeting, treasury management and investor reporting for Carter-Haston, and she ensures compliance with tax and audit requirements. Speed is a member of the company’s Investment Committee.
Speed is a member of the National Multifamily Housing Council and the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants. She graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English.
Michael A. Fielder
Partner
Michael Fielder joined Carter-Haston in 1996 and is involved in multiple aspects of the business including fund management, investment strategy, corporate finance, and investor relations and reporting. Fielder has considerable experience with real estate screening and due diligence, debt and equity structures, as well as managing the acquisition and disposition processes. He is a member of the company’s Investment Committee.
Fielder is a member of the National Multifamily Housing Council and the Urban Land Institute, where he serves on the Nashville chapter’s capital markets advisory board. Fielder is also a licensed real estate broker in Tennessee. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
John T. Carter
Partner
John Carter joined Carter-Haston in 1997 and provides day-to-day oversight of the property management platform. Carter also directs the acquisition and disposition processes and manages property insurance, real estate tax matters and the construction management team. He is a member of the company’s Investment Committee.
Carter is a Certified Property Manager Candidate with the Institute of Real Estate Management and a member of the National Multifamily Housing Council. He earned his bachelor’s degree in public affairs from Indiana University.
James A. Shanks
Partner
James Shanks joined Carter-Haston in 2007 and oversees the company’s acquisition and due diligence processes. He also manages all mortgage debt placement and participates in corporate finance activities, equity structures, investor relations and reporting and regulatory compliance. He is a member of the company’s Investment Committee.
Shanks is a member of the National Multifamily Housing Council and serves on the Board of Directors of the Historic Fourth Ward Park Conservancy in Atlanta, Georgia. He’s also an active member of the Urban Land Institute and a graduate from its Center for Leadership program. Shanks earned an MBA from Belmont University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Virginia.
