Carter-Haston Ranks as a Top Employer in the Best Places to Work Multifamily® Awards

In an impressive showcase of workplace excellence, Carter-Haston Real Estate Services, Inc. has been recognized as a leader, securing the #14 spot in the Best Places to Work Multifamily® rankings, and the #29 spot on the Best Places to Work Multifamily® for Women list, presented by Multifamily Leadership.

This prestigious accolade was announced at the Multifamily Innovation® Summit in Phoenix, AZ, held on December 5-6, 2023. The event was not only a celebration of achievement but also a valuable opportunity for industry leaders to engage in the Multifamily Innovation® Showcase, fostering connections and sharing insights with fellow multifamily executives.

The multifamily sector plays a pivotal role in the economy, injecting over $3.4 trillion annually and supporting upwards of 17.5 million jobs. Apartment living is increasingly recognized as an economically sound lifestyle choice, bolstering job growth and community development.

The Best Places to Work Multifamily® initiative highlights companies that excel in creating and nurturing exceptional workplace cultures. As the multifamily industry evolves, focusing on resident experience and employee engagement becomes crucial for navigating various challenges and achieving sustained growth.

The Best Places to Work Multifamily® for Women list, a prestigious recognition in the multifamily industry, sets rigorous criteria for organizations aspiring to be acknowledged for their commitment to inclusivity. To qualify, companies must have a minimum of 15 women on their team, regardless of the organization’s size. For organizations with over 60 employees, at least 25% of the workforce should be female. A key factor is the female response rate to internal surveys, which must be 40% or higher, and even more stringent at 80% for employers with less than 25 women. A minimum of 10 female responses is mandatory for consideration.

Additionally, organizations must be recognized as a “Best Place to Work” for the current year and demonstrate an 80% average positive response rate among their female employees. For larger companies that conduct selective employee surveys, a minimum of 40% of the respondents should be women. This comprehensive set of criteria underscores the importance of female representation and satisfaction in the workplace, highlighting the industry’s commitment to fostering equitable and inclusive work environments.

A comprehensive evaluation process underpins these rankings, delving into company policies, employee satisfaction, and engagement. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at fostering industry-wide excellence and drawing in future leaders to the multifamily sphere.

Patrick Antrim, Founder and CEO of Multifamily Leadership, emphasizes the importance of employee engagement as a key performance indicator, often surpassing traditional metrics like company size. Engaged employees typically exhibit higher productivity and contribute to a more dynamic organizational environment.

Antrim states, “The new era of leadership in the multifamily industry is defined by a commitment to making a positive societal impact. It’s about understanding and being aligned with the company’s mission and vision, and this alignment is increasingly vital as businesses are called upon to take on greater societal responsibilities. The Best Places to Work Multifamily® honorees are at the forefront of this movement, poised to shape the future with a stronger, more influential voice.”

The program extends its benefits even to those not making the list, offering a comprehensive “Insights Report.” This report, which includes a summary of employee feedback and the “Multifamily Leadership Benchmark Report,” serves as a valuable tool for companies aiming to enhance their workplace culture.

The Multifamily Industry, serving apartments and their residents, contributes more than $3.4 trillion to the economy annually, supporting more than 17.5 million jobs. Not only do apartment homes drive jobs that strengthen local communities, individuals and families realize the value of renting as a smart choice in today’s economy.

As CEOs and executive teams create culture and innovation around the resident experience, employee engagement is seen as a key driver to meet multiple challenges. The Best Places to Work Multifamily® program recognizes those companies who have established and consistently foster outstanding workplace environments.

The rigorous assessment process evaluated each company’s employee policies and procedures as well as responses from the company’s employees. If you want to know if it’s a great place to work, you ask the people who work there. Patrick Antrim, Founder and CEO of Multifamily Leadership says, “Employee engagement is actually a much more powerful indicator of organizational success than the size of the company, as employee engagement is tied to behavior and higher performance.”

The report summarizes employee engagement and satisfaction data, the “Multifamily Leadership Benchmark Report,” and the transcript of employee written comments. The report is used by many organizations to make significant improvements in their workplace culture.

Antrim further states, “Next generation leaders want to know their company is making a positive impact on the world. They want to know the vision and mission of the organization and that the leaders of the organization are going to drive that mission and vision. This is becoming increasingly more important as society is asking businesses to play a bigger role. The Best Places to Work Multifamily® companies have stepped up to play that role and will have a much bigger voice in the future.”

Carter-Haston Fights Hunger

In May of each year, the Carter-Haston family typically donates over 1,000 volunteer hours at various charities in our neighborhoods where our communities are located. With the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we pivoted and worked to raise a total of $15,681 for the “Carter-Haston Fights Hunger” fundraiser to benefit local food banks. We are proud to say the money raised is enough to put food on the table for 889 families with three meals a day for a whole month. We want to thank our communities and team members as well as our residents for the time and effort to help raise money even during these strange and unfamiliar times. Everyone coming together and joining forces makes a huge difference and impacts so many.
